Google Meet is launching a new feature called ‘adaptive audio’ aimed at reducing echoes and audio feedback during meetings. According to a Google blog post, this feature synchronizes the microphones and speakers of multiple laptops in the same room, creating a seamless audio experience.
Benefits and Functionality
“This allows teams to create ad-hoc meeting spaces anywhere with just their laptops where everyone can be heard clearly, without the inconvenience of crowding around a single laptop,” the blog post explains. Adaptive audio is expected to enhance meeting flexibility, allowing people to join when meeting rooms aren’t available or when dedicated video conferencing equipment is not functioning.
Availability and Rollout
Adaptive audio will be enabled by default and can be controlled via Settings > Audio > Adaptive audio. The feature will start rolling out gradually on May 22nd for rapid release domains, with full visibility expected within 15 days. Scheduled release domains will start receiving the feature from June 5th.
Eligible Users
The new feature will be available to Google Workspace customers with the following plans: Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Business, Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, and the AI Meetings and Messaging add-on. Smaller organizations and those lacking dedicated video conferencing equipment are likely to benefit the most from this update.
Google Meet’s new adaptive audio feature promises to improve the quality and flexibility of virtual meetings, providing a better audio experience for users. As it rolls out, users can look forward to clearer, more effective communication in their virtual meeting spaces.
